Laboratory Assistant

Reporting to: Operations Manager

Job Summary

To support Testing Technicians in the preparation and execution of construction product(s) tests by carrying out general duties in line with test schedules and standard operating procedures (SOPs). This includes the conditioning, preparation, and handling of test samples, maintaining cleanliness of equipment and facilities to ensure smooth operations in all areas. This position is critical to the preparation and logistical flow of testing activities across all areas.

General

  • To support testing in all areas;
    • Pre-test: Sample receipting, sample preparation, mounting, etc
    • Post-test: de-mounting / disassembly, cleaning
  • Carrying out such tasks and duties as directed by the TestingTechnicians, Operations Manager,General Manager or Director.

Key Responsibilities:

Test Support and Sample Conditioning / Preparation

  • Take full responsibility project-by-project for the conditioning and preparation of samples including, but not limited to T4 and small-scale reaction to fire tests as required.
  • Ensure samples are placed into the conditioning room with adequate timing, as required by test procedures and scheduling.
  • Maintain and oversee the functionality of the conditioning room controlling flow of samples from receipt to post test, whilst ensuring extraction system is effective and within prescribed tolerances.
  • Capture and upload relevant photos and video evidence to the system in support of test documentation for theTesting Technicians.
  • Support the Testing Technicians in all areas during tests, including for example the application of the burning brand (radiant Roof / T4) or deflection measurements in Resistance Tests plus other assisting duties necessary for the safe and effective operation of testing in all areas.
  • Carry out all assigned tasks in accordance with the relevantSOP’s demonstrating a clear understanding of the procedures involved.
  • Ensure all testequipment is correctly stored and relocated to setups as needed.
  • Carry out such tasks and duties as directedby the management / operations team.
  • Provide support tothe project lead technician in compiling supplementary information required bythe Technical Administrator and Report Writer.
  • Assist with construction and general test support duties as directed by lead technicians.
  • Maintain highhousekeeping standards, ensuring materials, tools, and equipment are stored andused appropriately.
  • Shadow senior technicians to gain in-depth understanding and experience of the full test process.

General Operational Duties

  • Offload samples upon arrival, ensuring they are checked, documented following the sample receipting process, stored correctly and prepared as needed.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment, tools and testing areas, including the hangar and associated facilities.
  • Adhere to the quality management system and all health and safety protocols.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience in a laboratory, construction or technical environment is beneficial but not essential.
  • Ability to understand and follow technical instructions and standard operating procedures accurately.
  • Basic understanding of fire testing procedures (training will be provided).
  • Physically fit and capable of lifting and moving test samples and equipment.
  • Willingness to learn and develop in a hands-on, supportive role.

Job Summary

This role is responsible for supporting technical and operational teams through effective contract review coordination, document control, and administrative support. It acts as a key point of contact for both internal teams, ensuring accuracy, professionalism, and efficiency across all communication and documentation processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing draft technical reports based on internal input, to be reviewed and completed by the technical team.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of report templates and procedural documents.
  • Support and coordinate the contract review process, ensuring all documentation is accurate and completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and update StandardOperating Procedures (SOPs) and internal documentation, including formatting, version control, and distribution.
  • Ensure internal databases and metrics are kept accurate and up to date, supporting operational reporting and efficiency.
  • Perform a variety of administration duties, including document formatting, and supporting data entry,
  • Complete additional tasks as required by management, including supporting special projects or internal initiatives.
  • Co-ordinate information between internal technical, operations & sales teams
  • Aid in the preparation of technical drawings used in test reports (full training to be provided).

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Strong organisational skills and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in client-facing or customer service roles is required.
  • Confident with Microsoft OfficeSuite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to learn technical and procedural requirements – full training will be provided.
  • A proactive, problem-solving attitude and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Experience with Auto CAD software is preferable.

The Skilled Construction Worker / Operator will take the lead in building and installing test structures and equipment to support a wide range of testing operations. You will work closely with technicians to ensure tests run smoothly and meet strict quality and safety standards. Adaptability and leadership are key, as you’ll be expected to take ownership of tasks and guide others where needed.

General

Key Responsibilities

  • Support construction and installation of test assemblies, including walls, floors, ceilings, and other supporting structures according to test specifications.
  • Build test assemblies and supporting constructions such as walls, floors, windows, doors and ceilings according to test specifications.
  • Interpret construction drawings and ensure structures are built accurately and safely.
  • Install test-related equipment such as transducers and thermocouples following relevant standards.
  • Collaborate with technicians during tests, providing hands-on support and assistance.
  • Work under guidance or as instructed technicians to execute complex tests and troubleshoot issues.
  • Handle test samples, including transporting them between conditioning rooms and test equipment.
  • Operate a forklift to load/unload vehicles and move materials within the facility (training provided if necessary).
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks, including cleaning test equipment and surrounding areas after tests and disposing of waste materials.
  • Support business improvement works by applying construction expertise to upgrade facilities and infrastructure.
  • Adhere to the quality management system and all health and safety protocols.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Construction experience is essential, with proven hands-on expertise in building and installation tasks.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and work to precise specifications.
  • Proficient in using a wide range of hand and power tools.
  • Previous exposure to the Testing,Inspection, and Certification (TIC) industry is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong awareness of quality control standards and attention to detail.
