As a UKAS-accredited testing laboratory, our vision is to set the benchmark for testing and certification of construction products across all disciplines through recognition of our staff's integrity, business practices, ethics, commitment to continuous improvement and quality of service.

Testing Services We Provide

Our testing services include fire resistance testing, reaction to fire, acoustic properties, façade mock-ups for water and air ingress, physical load testing, and endurance.

Reaction to Fire

Reaction to fire performance of products and materials used within the construction sector, in support of BS 8414, LPS1181 and BS EN 13501-1 classification.

Fire Resistance

Fire resistance performance of construction products and materials. Our 4m high x 3m wide aperture vertical furnace and 4x3m horizontal furnace have been designed and engineered to provide consistent and reliable results.

Facades, Windows and Doors

Façade testing to CWCT and equivalent European or US standards. Mechanical, operational functionality, smoke, physical and security testing for facades, windows and doors.

Acoustics

Laboratory measurement of airborne sound, impact sound insulation of building products, flanking transmission of ceilings and floors and the measurement of sound made by rainfall on building elements (roofs).

Our Fire Testing Capabilities

Vertical Furnace

The 4m high x 3m wide aperture vertical furnace can cater for specimen/samples up to 4m high x 3m wide, from access doors, to cladding systems.  We can also cater for smaller apertures for indicative type testing, with 3m high x 3m wide and 1m to x 1.5m apertures.

Testing to a wide range of British and European standards for determining the fire resistance of non-load bearing elements of building construction when subjected to the heat curve and pressure conditions specified in the relevant standard including, but limited to;
BS 476-22:1987 – Non-load bearing elements: Clause 5 (Walls), Clause 6 (Fully insulated doors), Clause 7 (Partially insulated doors), Clause 8 (Uninsulated doors)

BS EN 1364-1:2015 – Non-load bearing elements: Walls

BS EN 1366-4:2021 – Service Installations: Linear Joint Seals

BS EN 1634-1:2014 +A1:2018 – Fire & Smoke control: Doors, Windows

BS EN 1634-2:2008 – Fire & Smoke control: Hardware

Horizontal Furnace

The horizontal furnace can cater for specimen/samples up to 4m x 3m, from floorings to ceilings and roofing systems.  We can also cater for smaller apertures for indicative type testing, with 1 to 1.5m apertures.Testing to British and European standards for fire resistance of non-load bearing elements of building construction when subjected to the heat curve and pressure conditions specified in the relevant standard, including, but limited to;
BS 476-22:1987 – Non-load bearing elements: Clause 9 (Ceilings)

BS EN 1364-2:2018 – Non-load bearing elements: Ceilings

Furnace Tests

This standard describes procedures for determining the fire resistance of non-load bearing elements of building construction when subjected to the heating and pressure conditions specified in the relevant standard.Horizontal and vertical furnace apertures up to 3m x 4m are ‘filled’ with construction products to carry out the test in accordance with the standard and make note of any observations and the behaviour of the specimen, including the mode of failure in the event of collapse. Results shall be stated in terms of the elapsed time to the nearest minute, between the commencement of heating and the time of failure; both in terms of insulation and structural integrity.
Related Standards
BS EN 1364-1: 2015 Fire resistance tests for non-load bearing elements – Walls.

BS EN 1364-2: 2018 specifies a method for determining the fire resistance of ceilings, which in themselves possess fire resistance independent of any building element above them.

BS EN 1634-2: 2008 Fire resistance and smoke control tests for door, shutter and openable window assemblies and elements of building hardware.

BS 476-22: 1987 Fire tests on building materials and structures - Method for determination of the fire resistance of non-load bearing elements of construction (for walls and ceilings).
